What This State Chapter is All About!

The Washington State Chapter of the AWRA fosters educational and professional development. Student support is provided in the form of two annual student fellowships, sponsorship of a student chapter at the University of Washington, and our new mentoring program. Inter-organizational support is fostered with local, interstate and international organizations. A bimonthly newsletter is published containing in-depth analysis and editorials of current issues. Brownbags are organized on special issues as they arise. Several dinner meetings are held throughout the year providing good food and good company followed by a presentation by featured guests. The Washington chapter hosts an annual State conference which brings together a diverse group of water resource professionals from across the state. The National AWRA conference presents a unique opportunity for water resource practitioners from diverse disciplines to gather and interact together.

The Washington chapter has been busy planning a collection of thought-provoking events and articles to showcase the Pacific Northwest. We also offer an employment page where positions wanted and available are posted. A dedicated board of 18 members meet regularly to plan, organize and facilitate events.

Supporting and mentoring the professional development of students for the future of our water resources management is a primary objective of the Washington Section of the American Water Resources Association. Toward this end, we support the development of student chapters in institutions of higher learning oriented toward the understanding and management of water resources.

One student chapter of AWRA is established at the University of Washington and maintains their own, AWRA-UW web site. Student representatives participate in regular state section functions, such as board meetings, that encourage their professional development. The professional section subsidizes student attendance at dinner and conference meetings, and the costs of student functions such as special speaker presentations. Students assist in the logistical aspects of the professional annual state conference.

If you wish to learn more about your Section and/or wish to participate more in Section activities, you will be warmly welcomed. Please contact any of the board members.
